Tough one tonight

Not only do I have a lack of a decent shot. I am also short of things to say. Lucky to get a post today as I was supposed to go out for a few cheeky pints tonight, but they got canceled. Life is all work and no play at the mo.

Did manage to get out and take some shots, but none of them were any good. Here is the best of a bad bunch. There was a nice big moon out tonight and it looked quite interesting through the tree.

Old and new

I don't feel too bad about posting the first shot.

This is a blog about my life, and my computer has been a huge part of it for the last two days. I have been chained to either the Macbook or Imac for the whole day today. When I wasn't on the computer or in sessions yesterday, I spent the day looking at a dead body. I attended a Cadaver dissection. All very interesting, but a bit graphic in parts.

So pic one is of my lovely 13 inch macbook! (The New)

Picture two and three (the old)I took whilst waiting for my friend in the Kruger Park. I had a couple of hours to kill in the camp and started taking shots of things of interest. I first saw the bird (the name elludes me, please comment if you know the name), took a few shot of it and then noticed the bat just hanging out. Quite rare to see out in the day time. These were taken on my last trip in 2004.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions

As usual good plans go awry!

I had planned to go on a shoot today, but got a phone call early on Sunday morning from my good friend Jonah. He is on a business trip to London from South Africa and wanted to meet up for a drink. So needless to say off I went. Just offer me a pint and off I go!

We walked around Knightsbridge but nothing caught my eye, except the massively expensive motor cars parked all around. I don't really want to post pictures of expensive cars on my blog.

So here is a picture of Jonah. Sorry if you don't want to be posted Jonah and Anne, if you are checking my blog, something to remind you of him while he is away.

It is supposed to be fun!

I think I have the fishtank of death. Mandy bought me this lovely fishtank for my birthday/christmas present. I though having one would be relaxing. Well, it isn't. You wake up every morning and stress out that you are going to look into the tank and see a dead fish. This is very likely in my tank. When I walk into the Pet store, all the fish hide. I managed to lose 7 fish in the last week. It seems to have calmed down now as it has been two day without a death.

Nothing inspiring happened today, just a nice relaxing day so thought I would take a few shots of the tank and a few of the fish.

I currently have two golden gouramis, one albino ram (used to have 3 blue rams), 2 silver sharks (used to have three), two corys, one plec, 5 harlequins and 11 neon tetras (used to have 16).

The tank is looking a bit better, but is still settling. I had to remove a whole lot of plants as they just weren't thriving.

Out and about tomorrow so hopefully will get some nice shots tomorrow. Any suggestions? - Maybe you could all come up with a topic or two.

Check out the widget to the left below the recently visited lsit called Vasaar. It is a photography website where people make suggestions and then everyone submits their shots. I submited my sunset the other day and it was featured this week. Result!.

Check it out.

I'm worried about the City Limits!!!!

On my way home today I noticed that the "City limits" sign is looking a bit worse for wear. So here is what it is looking like now. Look back at my archives to see my original picture. I have also posted a picture of the building site on Bishopsgate. I like the way it looks like the building is bending.

A bit of contrast!

These shots offer a great contrast to yesterdays post. These were taken yesterday morning outside my flat.

I don't know how the rest of europe survives winter. I was rather amused by a news headline yesterday "1 inch of snow causes travel chaos." Everyone nows we have rubbish weather in the UK so i find it funny that:

1. The wind blows and the trains have to stop.
2. it snows and the trains have to stop.
3. The leaves fall off the trees and the trains have to stop
4. It gets cold and the trains have to stop.
5. It gets too hot and the trains have to stop.

Enough moaning.

Sorry for no post yesterday, but blogger was down for unplanned maintenance.

Laters.

Winter Finally arrived

Yep, it was cold in London today. It felt like the first real day of winter.

It did make me very jealous of my parents. They are currently in the middle of a trip to the Kruger Park in the North East of South Africa. They phoned me the other night to say they were sitting in a tree house watching the sun go down having a drink.

Thought I would post this picture to give you an idea of what they must have seen. I took this at sunset over a dam, aptly named sunset dam near Skukuza Camp in the Kruger park.

I hope you like it.

If you would like to see more of sunset dam drop me a comment and I will get some more up soon.

I'm at my limit!!!

Another day not condusive to Photography. It really sucks having things to do during the day. Why can't someone pay me to take a few pictures each day. I don't know, maybe my pictures just suck!

Anyway, another boring one of the sights around work.... man this is getting old. We are due some snow over the next few days so hopefully the opportunity of some interesting pictures will come around.

Enjoy.

Something fun on the weekend

No shots from me today. These come courtesy of Graeme, my business partner, using my Camera. We had an Egoscue workshop on the weekend at work. Here are a few shots of us on the course.

Went out last night and had a few too many vodka cokes so my motivation to get out and take shots was at an all time low. Will have to sort some shots out during the week. Running out of inspiration around work though.

Later and keep the comments coming

Another from my walk on the South Bank

Even though I posted earlier today, I thought I really needed to add an extra one for the missed photo yesterday. It does give me the opportunity to play around with the effects in iphoto.

Hope you like it.

p.s. I have had a few people say they have been having problems posting comments. Please keep trying and if it still doesn't work leave a comment for me at my work blog.

Proof - We do get sunshine in London

Hi all, did not have access to the internet at all yesterday and as you can tell from the picture I clearly did not take this one yesterday. This shot was taken on Tuesday when the sun did shine. So, this is yesterdays and todays post.

Yesterday the weather gods were very angry and we saw rain and very strong winds. Unfortunately I did not have my camera on me so was unable to get any interesting shots of the weather. Maybe next time - shouldn't be too long away knowing london weather.

Going on a shot expidition this weekend at some point so look out for next weeks posts.

Have a good weekend.

I missed my bus for this shot

Sorry for the quality but it was taken on my mobile phone, so not quite a crisp as my D70. I saw the shot, took it and proceeded to ignore the bus I needed to catch home.

Got a bit of time tomorrow so will take some time for a few shots. Hopefully I will come up with something more interesting and a bit better.

Sorry!

So much for quite sunday drinks

My birthday got messy, against plans and hence no post for yesterday. I was in bed by 8.30 pm and don't think I could have typed even if I wanted to. Here is a pic taken by mandy before things got ugly. I had a good time. Felt it on monday morning though.

Do you recognise this street?

My photo expedition today did not yield very many good results. None Really.

This one has some interest rather than being a good picture. This was the location of a scene in "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" and also a road I worked on when I first arrived in London. A scene from "Entrapment" was also filmed here. They managed to wrap a Jaguar around one of the bollards on the side of the road.
It is Park Street if anyone is interested.

Nothing special today!

Was riding the number 35 home with camera in hand and saw my reflection in the window of the ABN AMRO building so thought I would take a quick picture. The camera managed to focus on the reflection of me in the bus window and I kind of like the result.

That is it for today, not sure what I have in store for tomorrow, but you can rely on something cheesey on sunday from my birthday drinks.

Eye See London

Was walking along the South Bank and you just can't help but take some pictures of the London Eye. The first one I took to try and give you an idea of the size of it. I took this looking straight up from below the wheel and although it doesn't really show the size, I think it is a really interesting shot.

The next picture quite dark colour so played with photoshop and think the result is quite good.

What do you think?

The sun did shine...just!!

It did make an appearance but I must say it was bloody freezing.

Managed to take quite a few good shots today. Here are two for you. A reflection of tower bridge and the Building where the London Greater Authority have their offices.

Enjoy.

Not quite rush hour

Sorry for the belated post. I forgot to upload last night and have already got an "I am very disappointed - no picture" email. Sorry Graeme. He has just set up his own blog - work related - but do go and have a look - Stronger and Fitter Maybe we can give him some stick if he doesn't post every day.

This shot is the road outside work. I just love the light reflecting off the wet road. By looking at my shots you must think there is no sunshine in London, but if I don't get out before 4pm - which I often don't - it will be dark. Apparently the wind is changing direction today and although the temperature will drop, the sun will come out. I have no personal training sessions today so will go out and about with the camera and get some sunny shot. That is if the Weather man can be trusted.

Enjoy!

Where do trains go when they die - Train Heaven

This is a fairly well photographed peice of art (can I call it that) and thought it was a no brainer to take a few shots as it is just a two minute walk from work.

At least I am sticking to the original brief.

I am cheating by taking a few back up pics in case I have days that don't allow me out and about.

Back on track though and will keep it going. Hope you like!!

Fall back number 4

This one tickled my fancy when taking a walk from the ski station on Aonach Mor. I highly recommend The Nevis Range as a destination in both winter or summer. Some scottish skiing in winter and some great mountain biking in summer. This sign was found on the edge of a big fall.

Hopefully tomorrow will be an up to date shot.

Greg

Fall Back number 3

A friend of mine does falconry so was lucky enough to get up close and personal with one of his birds. I didn't post the one where the bird had a baby chicken hanging out its mouth.

Fall back number 2

I was very luck to get this shot. I nearly learnt the had way to return the camera to a normal setting after you have been playing with shuter speeds etc. The red arrows flew past my window on the Queens Birthday. I grabbed my camera and started snapping only to get a black screen. Eventally worked out that the camera was on a strange setting and managed to take this one before it was too late.

Fall back number 1

This is the first shot that I took when I bought my new nikon d70. Played around a bit with it on photoshop. Just a small change in the saturation levels. I was quite happy with the first attempt.

Thursday's Post

We are only three days in and I am already changing the target. Having given it a try I know realise that there is no way that I am going to be able to take a picture for each day. Rather than post some old tat picture I would rather post a selection of pics that I have taken over the last few years. I am doing this blog in an attempt to improve my photography and hopefully give you something decent to look at. If what I post is crap then you won't come back to see. So, I will try to take a decent shot each day, but if no luck I will post one of my better pics. So lets catch up on the last four days.

I thought the new year was when everyone wanted to exercise

Well, I'm 3 days into the new year and as yet as still to complete my first Personal Training session of the year. My great sony ericcson w810i or possible the Orange network was responsible for one session cancellation. My confirmation text only took 7 hours to be delivered.

This whole photo blog thing is quite stressful and we are only on day three. I don't get the opportunity to take many shots during the day so had to make do with some snaps on the way home. Did some palying with shutter speeds and these are the results.

The biggest sick day ever

Apparently, London was hit by record levels of sickness today. This had the knock on effect of me not having any appointments today. That meant I was one of the many that spent the day at home. This was quite handy, as the drains had blocked for the second time in 24 hours and I had to sit and wait for the plumber. Luckily, this was sorted by mid afternoon and gave me the opportunity to go out an snap a few pics. Here they are. G

Not a good start!!!!!!

So, went out on the south bank last night to see in the new year. Had tickets to the Royal festival Hall which gave us a great view of the London eye and the fireworks. What a great opportunity to get a really impressive picture to start the blog with. I took about 15 shots on the mobile phone. Some were quite good considering the Sony w810i has only a one megapixal camera. I knew I had a good shot for the blog so dedicated today to recovering from my hangover. Just sat down to load the pictures on the my macbook and, joy of joys, my phone camera has packed up taking all my shots with it.

I thought starting this blog with a picture of my big toe was not the way forward so have got Graeme to MMS a picture that he took (on the right) and have stolen a picture from the web giving you a more professional idea of what we saw (thanks to www.columbian.com) Don't worry, for future no picture days, my big toe will be making an appearance.

I will make a concerted effort to post some pictures that I have actually taken in future. Apologies and enjoy.
