Until recently, I was a serial "shoot on Auto" photographer... if you can call that being a photographer. Anyway, since starting this 365, my camera has stayed on Manual the whole time and my photography and understanding of how the camera and lens works have improved massively.
So today was the first day I thought I had lost a shot because of having my camera in manual. I think I would have got the shot in camera if I had checked my white balance settings. I adjusted the white balance, but the sunlight on the church had changed.
Luckily I shot in raw and instead of just opening in photoshop as a JPG I opened it in Raw and adjusted the White balance from there, revealing the shot that I wanted to capture.
Is this cheating or am I just starting to use more of the tools at my disposal?

Smoke 60:365
Another disappointing photography day.
Felt a bit second hand this morning - see day 59 alternative for the cause. Also going to South Africa for a holiday on Wednesday so we needed to tidy the flat.
Wanted to try smoke shots again, but I must say I failed miserably .
Strobist info:
Lit from the left with a spotlight and the sb600 to the right

Labhaoise day 59:365
I tried some more drop photography today. I wanted to get a shot of a second drop hitting the first drop, but all I succeeded on doing was nearly flood my kitchen, wet may camera and flash. I didn't get one shot that was any good.
Met up with some friends for a drink at our local and took the camera with the nifty fifty on and took this candid shot of a friend and just loved the feeling and atmosphere.

Black Hole Day 58:365
SOOC. Saw someone on flickr doing some amazing work with some led torches and some string and thought I would give it a go.
Nowhere near the standard of the ones that I have seen but not bad for a first time and I am using an inadequate torch. Need to invest in some led torches.
See my other attempts below and let me know if this is the best or not. Maybe next time I am in this position, I will get my contacts to decide on my shot of the day!
Have a great weekend.

London's Burning 57:365
A big fire started at 4am this morning (11 March 2010) in a building on Tabernacle Street, in the City of London EC2. This was taken at 12.30pm and it was still going strong!
As this is just around the corner from work and I had to go the bank to sort some things out, I thought I would go and rubberneck.
Perfect opportunity for the shot of the day.

Five 56/365
Home extremely late after a busy day.
My new wireless triggers have finally arrived. Bought them off Amazon and paid extra for 1-2 day delivery. A week and a half later they arrived. What are the chances of getting refund on postage....minimal.
Anyway, they are the Tongnuo RF-602tx. I put the batteries in, attached them to my flash and camera and they just worked. Syncs perfectly at 200, but not at 250, but I wasn't expecting that. Better than my old ones, which would only work at 160.
Anyway, this was the picture I took when I test fired it for the first time.
So, sorry, not up to anything good tonight... maybe tomorrow!

Death of a Caramel Egg day 55:365
Mandy's Mom sent us some small easter eggs and seen as though I am going to be in South Africa for easter, I thought I would have one this evening.
Not the most interesting series, but it sure was tasty to shoot.

Perranporth Walk 53/365
Went for a 2 hour photo walk from Perranporth up to St Agnes. Although the wind was blowing and in the wind it was cold, the sun was shining beautifully.
This however highlighted on of the weaknesses of the nikon d90. The screen was difficult to see so all my shots from the beginning were all under exposed.
Eventually got it right and this is one of the better shots.
I highly recommend a visit down to Cornwall. It is fantastic!

Flower and bokeh 53/376
Loving the Bokeh.
Had a nice night out in Falmouth with Gavin and Sally after a great day in St Ives. Felt a bit second hand in the morning, but still managed a 2 hour photo walk along the coast.
I love Cornwall. I think we should move down there sooner rather than later!

St Ives Girl day 52 Alternative
SOOC... My beautiful wife catching the sun on St Ive's beach.
The locals must have know we were mad Southern Africans as we set up the skottle on the beach and cooked tomato gunk and boerewors. Lovely!

Blue Door day 52 Alternative
Lots of lovely interesting doors all around. Love this colour!
Taken in St Ives.

St Ives Graveyard Day 52 Alternative
Lots of processing on this one. Did it to bring out detail on the cross and keep the sky interesting.... Too much?
To Cornwall 51/365
Today was the closest I have come to not getting a shot.
This was taken at about 10.30pm on the train down to Truro.
I am sure Mandy is not too happy about being the subject again, but, needs must!
A little bit of interesting bokeh in this one. I did play with with vibrancy and saturation levels as well as adding a layer and brightening Mandy's eye. I may have over done it a bit!

Day 50 / 365
Not really what I was expecting to take on day 50, however, best laid plans etc....
This is the first time I have taken a shot with the exposure on bulb and with the flash on. I probably did not have the power set up high enough and could have used a different aperture.
I kinda like it and have decided on this as the shot of the day.
Please check my others and see if you agree.

River of Light day 50 alternative
I really like this one. I just wish I had been more stable.
Wish I could do it again. It really lookes like a river of light. I realise that these kind of shots look better when you focus on the brake lights rather than the headlights.

Strawberry drop 48/365
Ok, so it may not be cool, but at least it required a bit more effort than last nights shot!
I think this is the best of the bunch (check the others and let me know what you think). I am sure that I can do much better. Maybe I will use my 50mm next time.
I also used my wireless flash trigger for the first time and probably the last. You get what you pay for and £16 is not a lot of money.
It would not work properly at a shutter speed greater than 160. I have already ordered some better quality ones, so here hoping they will work better.
Will give this another go soon!
Strobist info:
Shot from a tripod with a shutter remote. SB600 fired from the right using wireless trigger.
White canvas background!
