Drop photography second attempt. I lost all of my first shots in a "back and restore" issue, but that was no great loss as they were completely rubbish.

These are not much better, but I have learnt a few things. I will give thins another go soon and try some different things.

Still undecided about the best lens to use, so I'm going to try a few different ones next time.

I need to sort out my lighting and my back grounds. Tried on a black back ground last time and white this time, but neither have really worked, might have to try some different materials.

This was the first time I used my sb-600 off camrea, so probably haven't set it up properly.

May have to read a few tutorials on how to do this properly, without a full strobist set up.

By the way, this was the first shot I took. Took at least 100 more, but they just did not

Full Moon 30th Jan 2010 17/365

Ok, so moon shots two days in a row, but it is not often that we have cloudless skys and a nice full moon.

So I really tried tweaking the camera settings to try and eeck out more sharpness and detail, but I just could not get it any better. Compare this with the 3/4 moon below and you will see what I mean.

As usual when shooting a full moon I got very little detail, but I always love a moon picture. Hope you do too!

Been having some IT problems, so thought I would run a time machine back up, do an erase and install and recovery all my info from my time capsule. However, loading up iphoto today, I realised that all my shots from the last 4 days were not saved. Highlights the need to backup in more than one location. At least I could still get the shots I posted on flickr. ;-(

I took the d90 everywhere with me today, but managed to forget to put a memory card in it. I also managed to finish my battery on my iphone, but luckily managed to actually take a shot today of my colleague at work.

Given it the Photoshop treatment again.

I am giving him homework, so needed to take some shots to remind him of what he has to do.

So not an arty, or even close to technically good. I basically had the camera on auto, framed and pressed.

Have not got the creativity or energy to do anything else tonight, so played in photoshop and came up with this. A bit of a cop out, but needed to make sure that the subject was not recognisable.

Managed to get away from the computer at 4.30 this afternoon and seen as though the sub was shining - sort of- I thought I would attempt some drop photography. Needless to say, it is much harder and I mean much harder than it looks. I am going to need more light and a better off camera flash set up, to get better results.
Anyway, I looked out the window when I was setting up and there was a great moon out, so I took a few shots.

Later, whilst being very unsuccessful with the water drops, I looked out the window again and saw a most amazing sunset over the London skyline.

I hope you like it, I do!

See the moon shot below and water drop shots to follow!

Jan 10 moon Day 13 alternative

Quite processed, but I like it.

Those didn't come out quite right, so popped my aero on there - uneaten, then had a bite and took another.... Bingo, there is my shot of the day

Nice from Far a 365 reject

But far from nice!

Had the extension tube on the nifty Fifty - I think I am getting a better grip of it, but still have a long way to go. Getting good focus and enough depth of focus is tricky. This will take more practice.

I may give it another go on Tuesday. No chance of doing it tomorrow. I need something quick and easy for tomorrow.

May have to snap a few pics at work, which I am be able to use. We'll see.

Anyway, pulled out the photography books and magazines and have starting putting some ideas down on paper. I am going to write a comprehensive 365 list and going to try and get through the while list over the next year.

Any ideas from you guys will be greatly appreciated.

Anyway, pancakes for dinner - seen in three stages.

Enjoy, I certainly did!

I did take my camera with me, but all the shots I took just were not good enough.

So tonight you get my beautiful wife.

Thanks Mandy

There is a building on the way to work, that has been taken over by squatters and called a non commercial house. Anyway, the side entrance is all protected by barbed wire. I always thought how the new building rose out of it would make a good picture. I will have to give it a go with the nikon. Anyway, adjusted some levels and this is the end result.

Although this candle glows quite nicely, it is not a true swazi candle. If you are ever in Southern Africa, I suggest picking up some as they are beautiful and last forever. Anyway, had a massively busy day at work and had absolutely no time to do something during the day, so thought I would photograph the candle on the reflective top of my oven. Lights off and taking without flash with my nifty fifty.

Stopped at Nando's, my favorite "takeaway", on the way home from work and grabbed some chicken wings. They have some really interesting lighting in there, so I asked if I could take a few pictures. However, the person that I asked disappeared so was hasseled by other staff members and only mananged a few and not of the lights I really wanted to take. Having some problems focusing with the nifty 50, so not great. Tomorrow will be better.

OK, I decided to start my 365 today, rather than the 1st. It is my birthday today and I thought that was a better time to start than the first of January. Also, nothing much was happening on the 1st, let alone pulling out the camera.
This is a photo of the menu at the restaurant where Mandy and I went for dinner. I had the Bourbon basted ribs......hhhmmmmmm!!
One down, 364 to go
